Dads on Duty
I wake up every morning to email box and Twitter feed full of news articles about the violence and hatred of the police state. (Yes, I chose to be on those mailing lists and Twitter follows). Today, though, I read one article that really made me feel good all morning long.
In response to a rash of violence in one of their schools, a group of dads formed a group called “Dads on Duty” where they go to the school and walk around greeting students, giving them encouragement, and telling corny jokes. There hasn’t been an incident of violence since they started their program.

Contrast that with the violence approach, where violence police and para-police (SROs) are placed in schools to “curb” violence, but really just lead to caging children and increasing violence. Now SROs are just outright killing kids.
Dads on Duty sounds like a great program. I can’t stop watching the video about how it works and hearing the dads who started it and the kids from the school talk about it. What an exciting, powerful, and successful alternative to the violence offered by the police state.
